3 Easy Ways to Stay Hydrated In The Summer

Staying hydrated is so important considering our bodies are made up of at least 70% water. it is one of the easiest and most basic things you can do for your overall health and wellness. You want glowy skin? Hydrate. You want to stop snacking so much? Hydrate. You want more energy? Hydrate.

I think drinking water and staying hydrated could be one of the most underrated and overlooked areas of health. Water helps our bodies to detox and eliminate waste so that we stay healthy. It’s something that can easily be implemented and will have drastic effects on how you look and feel. Our bodies get confused from to time and sometimes mistake thirst and dehydration for hunger. The next time you feel like you need to snack, I encourage you to drink 12-16 ounces of water first and see if you still have the urge to eat. Of course you should eat if you are truly hungry, but your body could actually be dehydrated instead.

Since we are all different, there is no one size fits all for how much water you should be drinking. A good rule of thumb to make sure that that you are drinking enough water is to drink half your body weight in ounces every day. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds you should be drinking at least 100 ounces of water on a daily basis.

Here are a few simple but effective ways to make sure that you are getting enough water throughout the day:

  1. Carry a water bottle with you wherever you go.

I know this may seem like a hassle at first, but trust me it works. I take one with me on my long walks, anytime I’m in the car, at my desk while i’m working, etc. It helps to have a water bottle in sight to remind myself to drink up and stay hydrated throughout the day. It’s an easy way to gauge how much you’re drinking throughout the day too.

  2. Eat hydrating foods

This is another way to ensure you are staying hydrated, but isn’t a substitute for not drinking water. There are so many foods that have a high water content like watermelon, cucumbers, celery, strawberries, peaches, cantaloupe, tomatoes, oranges, and lettuce. I recommend adding some of these foods into your diet, especially in the summer months when it’s warmer outside.

  3. Drink out of a straw

This is one of the simplest ways to drink more water in my opinion. I always stick a reusable straw in my water because I drink so much more of it this way. I even bought a water bottle that has a straw because it makes me drink that much more water on a daily basis. Try this out and see how your water intake changes.

I hope these simple, actionable steps help you to be more mindful of your water intake and stay hydrated throughout the day. I truly believe that drinking enough water and staying hydrated is one of the best things you can do for your overall health and wellness.

With love,
